Against Women
I believe that it is up every countries government to stick up for the women in their country however, that isn't the case for most. In many countries such as Mexico or Middle East Regions do not care to get involve in domestic violence cases rather they tend to over look it and blame the Women. Reading the facts that the United Nations laid out were shocking, it's very sad to see that "...87,000 women who were intentionally killed in 2017 globally, more than half (50,000- 58 per cent) were killed by intimate partners or family members, meaning that 137 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day. More than a third (30,000) of the women intentionally killed in 2017 were killed by their current or former intimate partner." (United Nations 2019). It's heartbreaking that many women live life in fear, wondering if they've breathed their last breath. After all the statistics its mind-blowing how many countries have still not found ways to take better care of women who have had a constant life of beatings and struggles.
The United Nations also states a fact that "at least 144 countries have passed laws on domestic violence, and 154 have laws on sexual harassment. However, even when laws exist, this does not mean they are always compliant with international standards and recommendations or implemented." If governments can pass these laws why will they not do anything to fix the actual situation? Why will the government let men get away with these terrible crimes? As sad as it is, ending women violence will be challenging and will not come easy but spreading the words of survivors that have left their abusers and are healing, making more people aware of these situations that are not only happening in the United States but that are occurring globally. The more awareness of women violence the more people will want to take action to do something to prevent abusers from getting away from these terrible crimes, something most governments can not seem to do.

ReplyDeleteI am completely heed to your statement on the violence that women face daily and how authorities in some countries choose to handle it. Women are always at fault for the issue, some men do not take responsibility for their wrongs. I have witness countless amount of abuse growing up, I have encouraged many women to seek help as well as finding a way out for a better life. According to the Facts and figures: Ending violence against women, mentioned that children ages 11-15 whom are forced into marriages and are pregnant before ages 18 which also contribute to death in women in these unjust situations. I think that we can try our very best to limit these violence but it will never stop, due to the heartless individuals in this world.

ReplyDeleteI did my post over this topic as well. This topic is very sensitive to many people because it happens so often even if its not to you. I believe some countries turn there heads and act as if its not an issue. Typically in the United States there is not very much the police will do. Most women feel hopeless, that if the police can't do anything then nobody can. The story usually ends in two ways, the woman fight back or she ends up dead. Its the sad truth. I believe all countries need to do a better job with protecting there women and their rights.
This is almost hard to read, and to see how high those numbers are. I do not want to believe that those numbers are so high. To think that 30,000 women were killed by someone who they loved at one point blows my mind. It breaks my heart to know that 30,000 women couldn't get out fast enough. I feel for the women who are stuck in an abusive relationship and are afraid to leave. And to know that only 144 countries out of 195 have laws on domestic violence really makes me wonder why the remaining 51 haven't done anything to help their fellow women out.
